The Haven for Equine Rescues of Ontario (HERO) is a non-profit organization born out of the love equestrians have for horses. We at HERO are working towards the protection and ethnical treatment of horses in the province of Ontario. We provide adoption and fostering services, information, and assistance to horses in need of rescuing. We help any types of horse regardless of breed, age, gender, ect. We are especially concerned with helping to find homes for off-track race horses due to the surplus of ex-racer's ending up in slaughterhouses.

We are hoping to promote and popularize the adoption of thoroughbred (TB), standardbred (STB) and quarter horse (QH) racehorses. Many of these horses end up in slaughterhouses in Canada before being shipped to countries such as France, Belgium or Sweden. Not just racehorses but every type of horse from school, camp or therapy horses may face a grim future if they end up in the wrong hands.
